On the trail: parades, the fair, and knocking on doors

Hi everyone,

This is my first campaign newsletter, so I want to catch you up on a summer that has been busy in the best way.

Fourth of July parades

On the evening of July 3, about thirty of us marched in the Lockport parade with two golf carts, two banners, and plenty of signs. It was well over 90 degrees, and the freezie pops we handed out may have been the most popular thing on the route. The next morning we were in Lancaster for a brisk, well-run parade, keeping pace behind our truck to hand out more. The energy from both crowds was wonderful, and I am grateful for every wave and cheer.

Niagara County Fair

From August 5 through 9, we were at the fair all day, every day. Our booth had a red, white, and blue tent, banners, cold water, and freezie pops for anyone who stopped by. Friends volunteered to staff it, including college friends who drove in from New Jersey and Ohio. Over those five days I spoke with more than a thousand people. They were engaged, curious, and ready to talk about what matters in their communities.

Knocking on doors

We are canvassing every day now. On Tuesday evenings, the Stand Up Lockport volunteers meet at Day Road Park to pick up walking assignments, and I join them. Bringing volunteers and candidates together every week, and training new people as they arrive, has worked well.

Volunteers and lawn signs

My friends have been wonderful throughout this campaign. Lawn signs are going out now, and many of them have taken signs for their own yards and for their neighbors. The Stand Up Lockport volunteers have been tireless at the doors and at the parades. If you would like a sign, use the contact form on the website.

Town hall on utility bills, September 29

Stand Up Lockport is hosting a town hall on the rising cost of utilities. We are calling attention to NYSEG's temporary rate increase and the additional increase now proposed. NYSEG, National Grid, the Public Service Commission, and the Governor's office have all been invited. I will explain how rate increases are approved and walk through how to read your own bill.

Tuesday, September 29, 7:00 to 8:30 PM (doors open at 6:30). Kenan Center, Taylor Theater, 433 Locust St, Lockport. Free, open to everyone, and nonpartisan. Bring your bill.
